Meet Our Care Partners for Veterinary & Farrier Services
Dr. Libby Maddux
Dr. Maddux grew up in Western Kentucky, first showing horses in the AQHA then opting for the faster pace of the rodeo arena. Here she competed at the high school level and continued at the collegiate and open level, while obtaining her degree from Murray State University. She then attended Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in May of 2007. Following graduation, Dr. Maddux joined Merritt and Associates Equine Hospital, a cutting edge Equine Sports Medicine, lameness, and referral hospital. This intensive one-year internship allowed her to work with a very diverse group of horses from various disciplines across the country. Following her internship, Dr. Maddux joined Franklin Equine Services, a general equine practice in Franklin, Tennessee. Here she spent two years sharpening her skills in medicine, dentistry, reproduction, and herd health, while maintaining her focus on lameness and sports medicine. In 2011 Dr. Maddux returned to Western Kentucky and established Maddux Equine Services. Through her practice Dr. Maddux will strive to meet all the health care needs of the horses in the area. Dr. Maddux is a member of the AAEP and the AVMA. See more about Maddux Equine Services by visiting their website: http://crittendencountyanimal clinic.com/index.htm
Matt Buffington
Matt puts the finishing touches on a corrective shoe he crafted for one of our retirees.
Some of the special needs of our retirees.
Lameness can be a determining factor in an early retirement. Even keeping a horse “pasture sound” can require some special help. Our farrier, Matt Buffington, is just the one to do the job. With over twenty five years experience, and both a B.S. and Master’s degree in Animal Science, Matt’s expertise completes the team of care partners here at Weber’s.
Matt finds the challenges of helping resolve lameness issues immensely rewarding. Ninety percent of the work he does is corrective, for horses competing, or a combination of the two. Matt is also a horseman himself. He and his wife, Kim, and son, Wyatt, enjoy showing reining horses and reside in Puryear, Tennessee. When he isn’t making custom shoes, Matt enjoys the creative side of blacksmithing, often crafting bits, spurs, or other custom works. Matt is a great asset to our retirees and we are pleased he is on our team.

This image was follow- up to the first image, again before this horse was retired here.
This image was after two years of corrective shoeing by our farrier. Notice the changes in the alignment of the bone column.
