A DAY IN THE LIFE.... A typical day means your horse will be hanging out with their best friends. We believe older horses do best in small numbers and every effort is made to ensure a compatible mix of personalities. The last thing any horse needs is to be chased around by the pasture bully. Full time access to roughage via pasture or hay is ideal for keeping them happy. Contentment reduces anxiety and digestive disorders. Picture your horse standing head to tail napping under the many shade trees each pasture has to offer. Loafing sheds provide shelter when weather dictates. Feed times for supplements or meds are designed to meet the needs of each individual horse. Other aspects of your horses day can be detailed to meet the desires of each horse's owner. Individual box stalls, extra grooming, or even hand walking on the trails in the woods, can be arranged. Horse treats, carrots and apples are a part of every retiree's life here on the farm.

QUADRIGUS
"Quad" is a beautiful warmblood from Germany and has the sweetest personality of any horse I have met. I did not begin riding until my early 50's. As a lifelong athlete I was able to pick up the sport quickly. I soon realized that other than being amazing athletes, these incredible horses had so much to give emotionally. At the time Quad came into my life I had another horse, an amazing but typically "in charge, all business" mare. Although Quad was well beyond my riding ability, I could not pass up the opportunity to have a relationship with this incredible guy. And he did not disappoint.
From day one, it was obvious that Quad knew I was just learning and even though he was a Grand Prix competitor, he knew he had to be careful with me. And that he was. I soon moved to a new barn with great new people. And along came Quad's show rider, Gabby. When I saw his incredible talent in the show ring, I decided to take a back seat and enjoy Quad from the other side. Our trainer, Devon, worked wonders with Quad and Gabby. I spent many years promoting and cheering on this duo at the shows. The first time I saw the Grand Prix jumps I will admit I was concerned about the height, but Quad jumped them beautifully. It was nice to know that if I could not be with him, his relationship with Gabby was solid and I knew she loved him as much as I did.
It can be challenging keeping these magnificent creatures in good shape. While you try to do everything possible to ensure their health and safety, sometimes measures are just beyond your control. And that's eventually where I landed. Quad was diagnosed with a disease called EOTRH. After a conversation with his vet, I made the difficult decision to retire him out. Some people thought I was acting a bit too quickly, but for me Quad's quality of the life he would have left was more important to me than show ribbons. I wanted him to have as many years as possible to just enjoy being a horse.
A friend of mine heard of Quad's condition and recommended Weber's Retired Horses. It was hard to think that Quad would be in Kentucky, and I would still be in California and with my businesses it would be difficult to travel to see him. However, after seeing the Weber's location and having a very heartfelt and loving conversation with Kim, I knew it was the right choice for both Quad and me. I have only had the opportunity to travel once to see Quad, but the Weber family makes sure I am constantly up to date on his care and Kim sends me photos and videos regularly. And I know I can call anytime just to check in or see a live video with Quad. And believe me, Quad loves his new home!
The wonderful beauty of today's technology ensures you can call and check on your horse most anytime. With digital imaging, photos can be sent right to you in no time at all. In most cases you can receive a photo update from Kentucky quicker than you can drive to your local stable and check on them yourself!
